: A legal aid clinic to provide basic legal services free of cost to public was opened on Bharathidasan University’s Khajamalai campus here on Saturday.
Principal District and Sessions Judge and chairman, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) P. Velmurugan inaugurated the clinic, which will function every Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mr. Velmurugan said the aim of the clinic was to provide free legal services to the poor and downtrodden and persons with disability.
The Principal Subordinate Judge and secretary, DLSA V.Thilaham said the intricacies of legal knowledge is absent even among the highly educated.
University Vice Chancellor K. Meena said opening of legal aid clinic was a landmark in the history of Bharathidasan University.
A. Murugesan, president, Tiruchi Bar Association, and V.Backiavathy, Associate Professor and Director (in charge), Department of Women’s Studies, Bharathidasan University, spoke on the occasion, a press release said.
