Languages build bridges among people, says Governor

Learn to speak more than one language as speaking mother tongue alone would not suffice in this demanding world, Governor K. Rosaiah told students here on Sunday.

After inaugurating the multi-language exhibition, lingua fiesta, at Star Matriculation Higher Secondary School here, Mr. Rosaiah pointed out that India being a multi-lingual and multi-religious country, knowledge of varied languages was an advantage.

“Language is an important source of knowledge like perception and inference,’’ he said. Reminding the students that their previous generations spoke more than three languages, the Governor said learning a new language helped in understanding the community, their region, and its richness better. “Languages build bridges among people,’’ he underlined.

The Governor expressed hope that the Lingua Fiesta would bring out the importance of languages showcasing the sharing of Indian languages, dialects and culture, and provide a platform for the students to strengthen unity of the nation.

The school’s 17th annual day was also observed on the occasion.
