Students should learn about different career options and choose one based on their interests, former vice-chancellor of Bharathiar University Vice-Chancellor C. Swaminathan has said.

Inaugurating the three-day career guidance fair, Edge 2013, organised by Sri Rengaswamy Educational Trust here on Monday, he said there was a general mindset among students that only a few fields of study present more job opportunities. This should change as all the fields provide opportunities for those with right skills and creative talents.

Mr. Swaminathan also asked the students to choose an educational institution to pursue a higher education course based on the infrastructure facilities and quality of the education provided there. He wanted the students to make use of the career guidance exhibition, internet and other tools to gather information about different institutions and choose a right one for them.

Excel Group of Institutions Chairman A.K. Natesan presided. Erode Sengunthar Engineering College Correspondent secretary S. Sivanandhan, Maharaja Group of Institutions Chairman K. Paramasivam and representatives from various colleges were present.

Over 100 educational institutions from different parts of Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Tirupur, Coimbatore and various other districts in the State are participating in the exhibition.

The entry is free.
