SALEM: Members of the Salem Bar Association boycotted court proceedings on Tuesday in protest against the police attempts to foist false cases against their members at various police stations in Salem district.

The lawyers claimed that police had been foisting false cases against their members in the city and district. Secretary V S Vivekanandan, assistant secretary R Arunkumar and others participated.

The members claimed that police had been targeting lawyers in the district.

Nearly 2, 500 lawyers in Salem took part in the agitation.

More than 5,000, the members claimed, participated in the one-day token strike.

Litigants suffered badly. The members of the association also staged demonstration on the premises and raised slogans against the police.
