They took out a protest rally without obtaining permission from police

SALEM: Police detained over 45 students of a private Law College here on Thursday for taking out a protest rally without obtaining permission from the police and causing damages to a police van here on Thursday.

Police claimed that the students protesting against the attack on one of the lawyers near Madurai recently took out a procession from the college for which they had not obtained any permission. This led to an altercation with the policemen on duty which led to a scuffle between police and students.

Protesting against this, one of the students attempted to commit suicide by causing injuries all over his body with a piece of razor.

Police arrested them and when they were being transported in police van to a marriage hall, a few reportedly damaged the lights and seats inside the van.

Till late in the evening the City Police had not registered any case against the students who had been detained in a marriage hall since morning.
