Law enforcers' gesture likely to hold water among people

With a view to quench the thirst of people in this scorching summer, Police have opened "Thanneer Pandals" (place where water is served) at various places in Thanjavur range comprising Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts.

"As a social service we have opened these Thaneer Pandals. Moreover this is an attempt to introduce the human face of police to the people," said V.A.Ravikumar, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Thanjavur range.

DIG has instructed the police in the range to open as many Thaneer Pandals as possible and quench the thirst of people.

At Thanjavur, the "Thanneer Pandal" at old bus stand was opened by Mangalieswaran, Deputy Superintendent of police and Krishnamurthy, Special Branch Inspector on Tuesday. Water and buttermilk were served. On Wednesday, three more Thaneer Pandals were opened at Keelavasal, Mary's corner and New Bus stand.

Similarly at Kumbakonam, two Thanneer Pandals were opened at Gandhi Park and New Bus stand. At Pattukottai one Thanneer Pandal was opened at bus stand. At Madukkur also a Thanneer Pandal was opened at bus stand and at Adhirampattinam near police station. One each was opened at Ayyampettai and Ammapettai. At Tiruvarur town two were opened on Tuesday and at Nagapattinam two were opened on Wednesday. Lot of bus passengers took water from the Thaneer Pandal at old bus stand at Thanjavur.
