Traffic on the Mettupalayam-Coonoor road was hit on Sunday due to a landslip that occurred between hairpin bends 4 and 5 near Burliar.

Speaking to The Hindu , Superintendent of Police S. Nizamuddin said that following an inspection by the officials of the National Highways Authority of India, it was decided to divert traffic on both directions via Kotagiri.

Stating that it was not a major landslide, he said that a decision on throwing open the road to traffic would be taken only after assessing the stability of the spot on Monday. A large number of tourists were subjected to considerable inconvenience due to the diversion.
