A suspected former Naxalite was arrested on the alleged charges of land grab in Dharmapuri on Wednesday.

A release from District Police Office in Dharmapuri said that R. Kamalanathan (51) from Mallikkuttai was arrested on charges of grabbing 8 acres of land belonging to A. Moses of Bangalore using a forged document.

The accused had divided the land into housing plots along with one P. Sumathi (34) of Ale Dharmapuri through a general power of attorney. They had divided the land into 190 plots and sold 40 plots.

Mr. Moses filed a civil petition before the Additional District and Sessions Court in Dharmapuri and got a stay order against selling the land.

At the same time, he also lodged a complaint with the Anti-Land Grab cell of the police. After verifying the documents and the legal opinion, the Dharmapuri police arrested Kamalanathan.

Judicial custody

He was produced before the Special Court for Anti-Land Grab in Dharmapuri and was remanded in judicial custody for 15 days. Later, he was lodged at the Salem Central Prison.
