At Nellai Fish Food Festival from February 7

: Renowned chef K. Dhamu will give a live demonstration of a range of fish recipes on Friday (February 8) to the visitors of the three-day Nellai Fish Food Festival 2013 (NEFFF ’13) to be held at Palayamkottai from February 7.

Centre for Aquaculture Research and Extension (CARE), St. Xavier’s College, Palayamkottai, is organising Nellai Fish Food Festival 2013 to popularise inland fish production and value-addition of fish products.

One of the objectives is to popularise fish production by stakeholders, self-help groups and housewives and to motivate people to consume fish food as high protein diet to enhance the human immune system.

On the first day, workshop on murrel fish production will be conducted for stakeholders at King’s Royal Court opposite Government Siddha Medical College. On the same day, an exhibition on edible fishes and value-added products has been arranged.

ICAR Institutes, universities and research institutes have been invited to exhibit variety of edible fishes and value-added products at Nehru Open Auditorium from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

School and college students are invited to display models and live fishes in stalls at 10 a.m. on the first day of the event for competition, said M.A. Haniffa, Director, Centre for Aquaculture Research and Extension, St. Xavier’s College, Palayamkottai, organiser of the event.

Meanwhile, essay writing, elocution and quiz competitions for school and college students will be held at District Science Centre between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on February 7. Backyard fish culture training for income generation will be conducted for housewives and SHGs (without registration fee) at St. Xavier’s College the next day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with lunch. Mr. Dhamu will give a live demonstration of fish recipes for ladies at 4 p.m. on the same day. Participants can get the tickets from King’s Chic restaurant and Arasan Super Market, Palayamkottai.

Housewives, SHGs and students of schools and colleges may display home made fish food verities at King’s Chic restaurant on February 9 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. and no registration fee will be collected for this competition.

The selected participants can give a live demonstration of fish recipes at King’s Chic Restaurant between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. and get their prizes.
