CHENNAI: Southern Railway has reorganised the sequence of 9-car and 12-car coaches in the Chengalpattu-Tambaram-Beach sector for the benefit of commuters travelling in the ladies compartments.

A release said that the sequence of EMU coaches in this sector after the reorganisation will be as follows with effect from Saturday:

The 9-car rake from Beach station end will be thus: General - First class and Ladies – General – General and Vendor – Ladies – General and vendor - First Class and Ladies – General.

The 12-car rake from Beach station end will be thus: General - First class and Ladies – General – General and Vendor – Ladies - General and vendor – General - First class and Ladies – General - General and Vendor - First class and Ladies – General.

The release said that at Perungulathur, the existing platform (of 9-car capacity) could not be extended due to level crossing gates on both sides.

The road overbridge on level crossing No.33 will be taken up shortly.

The tender for the work had been floated. After the completion of the road over bridge, the level crossing gate will be closed and the platform extended.
