The 56th Kurisumala pilgrimage to the hilltop shrine at Vellarada on Tamil Nadu-Kerala border will be organised between March 13 and 17
Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, Rev. G. Christudas, general convener of the event, and Rev. Solomon from RC Diocese of Kottar said thousands of devotees from various parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka visit the shrine during the Lent every year. The trek to the hilltop shrine, located at a height of 3,000 feet, reminds every devotee of Jesus Christ’s suffering at Calvary. Several thousands of devotees participate in the five-day ceremonies that commence with rosary and Way of the Cross at the foothill on March 13 at 9 a.m.
Ceremonies will be conducted in Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, English and Latin.
At the end of the five-day events, the Good Friday celebrations (on March 29) would commence with Way of the Cross from the foothill at 5 a.m. to the shrine and end at 3 p.m.
Drinking water, toilet, ambulance and other facilities will be provided at Vellarada, they said.
Special buses will be operated from different parts of Kanyakumari district to Vellarada.
