Kumkis leave for Hosur

Two kumkis (tamed/trained) elephants from the Chadivayal elephant camp of the Coimbatore Forest Department on Tuesday left in two trucks to drive back a herd of wild elephants that had strayed into human habitations near Hosur in Krishnagiri district.

Forest Veterinarian N.S. Manoharan escorted the elephants. The elephants are Nanjan (54) and Pari (34) both brought to Coimbatore from the Kozhikamudhi elephant camp near Top Slip of the Anamalai Tiger Reserve (ATR).

The operation to drive the wild elephant herd will commence on Wednesday.
