Prabhu and I will support Kamal Haasan in his DTH venture: Ramkumar
“Maattu Pongal,” celebrated every year at Sivaji farm at Soorakottai near here by the family of yesteryear superstar Sivaji Ganesan, turned out to be a gala affair this year with hundreds of fans of the new star from the stable – Vikram Prabhu – gracing the occasion.
The young star, who plays the role of a ‘mahout’ in the movie “Kumki”, was at the farmhouse taking the cattle around in procession after the traditional pujas .
The ecstatic fans surrounded him, offered garlands, and took photograph with him even as his father – actor Prabhu – and “Periyappa” Ramkumar were watching. “This is a tradition started by my grandfather. I am here with my Appa , Periyappa Giri Shanmugham (Sithappa) to celebrate Maattu Pongal. We are continuing the joint family tradition and are with our friends and children, ” Vikram Prabhu said.
“My son surprised me by his performance in “Kumki”. I used to call my son during his film shoot and enquire about his performance. “Wait and see daddy,” would be his answer, a visibly happy father Prabhu reminisces about his son’s days under Prabhu Solomon’s tutelage.
Lingusamy’s “Ivan Vera Mathiri”, and “Sigaram Thodu”, a movie from the production house UTV, directed by Gaurav, are the other movies on the pipeline for Vikram Prabhu. “We thank our well wishers, fans, my friends Rajinikanth and Kamal Hassan, for all their support and wishes. I thank Prabhu Solomon, Iman, Thambi Ramaiah, and the whole of ‘Kumki’ family for making Vikram Prabhu a successful star,” Prabhu said.
“Fans have come from Bangalore, Nagercoil, Madurai, Dindigul, and Sivakasi. It’s a testimony of their love for my father Sivaji Ganesan, who continues to live in the hearts of millions of fans,” Prabhu said. Crackers were burst and Pongal was served to every one.
Ramkumar, elder brother of Prabhu, said that his family comes to Thanjavur every year to celebrate Maattu Pongal at the farm house at Soorakottai as per the wish of his late father Sivaji Ganesan. “We are renovating an old Maratta period temple in our farm without interfering with its originality,” Mr.Ramkumar said. While we fight for getting our due share of Cauvery water from Karnataka, water resources here should be protected and improved, he added.
On Kamal Haasan’s initiative of wanting to release ‘Vishwaroopam’ on the DTH platform, Mr.Ramkumar said, “He is trying a new style of business. If he succeeds many will follow him. We support Kamal Haasan in his venture.”
Reiterating that Kamal Haasan was a good actor, Mr.Ramkumar said, “Prabhu and I will support Kamal Haasan in his venture. He is the best actor next to Sivaji Ganesan. His DTH initiative is at his own risk. The industry should support him.”
New technology should be embraced. Piracy will be eliminated when one optimally uses technology. “People have always fought against technology at initial stages-be it satellite TV or computer.
Later when they come to understand its importance, they accept it.” Adding that only a section of theatre owners are opposing Kamal Haasan’s move, Mr.Ramkumar said that the opposition arises because of lack of awareness of the technology.
Shivaji Productions will make a new film only in 2014. Discussions are going on with actor Vikram, for a movie.
