The Tourism Minister, N. Suresh Rajan, inaugurated ‘Kumari Sangamam – 2011' at Parvathipuram near here on Wednesday.

He said that the main aim of organising this cultural programme was to create awareness among people of the tradition and culture of the district throughout the State.

When Chennai Sangamam -2007 was organised, the Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi, had assured that such a programme would be organised in all districts.

So, events were organised in Tiruppur, Erode and Coimbatore last year.

It had been decided to conduct the cultural programme at Kanyakumari district in the current year. The event was organised by Tamil Maiyam in co-operation with the Department of Tourism.

The former Tamil Nadu State Congress Committee president, Kumari Ananthan, spoke.

A two-wheeler rally that started from Parvathipuram passed through Vetturnimadam, Vadaserry, Manimedai, Kottar, Chettikulam, Collector Office and reached Parvathipuram.
