CUDDALORE: Minister for Backward Classes M.R.K. Panneerselvam has said recent floods had further eroded the weak points on the banks of the Kollidam.
Therefore, the State Government proposed to obtain financial assistance to the tune of Rs 20 crore from National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development for the reinforcement of the Kollidam banks.
The Minister made this observation after releasing the water from the Keelanai near here on Monday. He said with a view to enhance the carrying capacity of the feeder canals to the Kollidam, the DMK regime carried out desilting operation at a cost of Rs 4 crore during it previous tenure and this had helped in flood control measures.
The present Government decided to earmark Rs. 5.50 crore from the Rashtriya Sam Vikas Yojana to desilt the canals.
