Work on both ghat roads going on in full swing: Collector

DINDIGUL: With the huge arrival of tourists to Kodaikanal, the district administration has geared up its activities for the summer festival scheduled to be held in third week of May. Most of the development works were over and all pending works would be completed in the first week of May, according to Collector R. Vasuki.

She was addressing a special consultative meeting on summer festival held at the Collectorate here on Tuesday.

Work on renovation of Batlagundu-Kodaikanal and Palani-Kodaikanal ghat roads were going on in full swing.

A spacious parking lot has been developed on the K.R.R. auditorium campus. Over 100 vehicles can be parked in this area. Mobile toilets would be installed in seven places on the hill station, including prime tourists spots. Special mobile medical teams have also been constituted to help tourists in case of emergency.

A complete facelift had been given to all the parks in the town.

Bryant Park would greet tourists with 250 different varieties of flowers and hundreds of roses.

With installation of decorative lights around the lake, tourists could enjoy the beauty of the lake even at night.

Special traffic committee comprising Deputy Superintendent of Police, Revenue Divisional Officer and Kodaikanal Municipal Commissioner has been constituted to make arrangements for smooth flow of traffic on the hill station during festival season.

Parking of vehicles has been banned between Munjikkal to Anna Salai roundtana. One way traffic would be introduced in this route during festival days.

The TNSTC would operate special buses to the hill station and shuttle services between tourists spots.

Competition for tourists

For the first time, district administration has organised ‘catch a fish’ competition for tourists in the lake. Those who catch a big fish would get a prize.

Separate competitions would be held for elders and children. A decorated boats procession would also be held in the lake.

All Government departments, forest, police, revenue, municipality, women development and rural development, would take part in the procession of boats, she added.

Cultural programmes, dog shows and sports meet would be also be held during the festival days.
