CHENNAI: The Indian Association for Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgeons conferred a lifetime achievement award on K.M.Cherian, founding chairman of Frontier Lifeline Hospital, Chennai.

He was recognised for his exemplary accomplishment and contribution in the field of cardiothoracic surgery. The award was presented to him at the combined 18 {+t} {+h} annual meeting of the Asian Society for Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery and the 56 {+t} {+h} Indian Association of Cardiovascular Surgeons 2010.

Dr. Cherian has been a cardiac surgeon for over four decades now and has many firsts to his career- including the first heart transplant after legalisation of brain dead donors; first bilateral lung transplant; first paediatric heart transplant and first heart and lung transplant.
