Rs. 6 lakh sanctioned for training rural youth in the new facility: E.V. Velu

Minister opens 3 classrooms at Government High School in Kolakkudi

Distributes colour TV sets to 1,783, house site pattas to 128

TIRUVANNAMALAI: Food Minister E.V. Velu inaugurated a rural sports centre for training youth in games such as kho-kho in Kolakkudi in Tiruvannamalai panchayat union recently. The State government has sanctioned Rs. 6 lakh for training the rural youth in sports at this centre at the rate of Rs. 2 lakh each for three years, Mr. Velu said.

This is the first rural sports centre in Tamil Nadu to offer training in kho-kho. Mr. Velu called upon the youth to utilise the facility and develop their sport skills. Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had taken steps to start sports centres in all villages under the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam to help students get training in various sports and remain fit, he said.

Mr. Velu also inaugurated three classrooms constructed at the total cost of Rs.4.5 lakh in the Government High School in Kolakkudi under Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, and two classrooms constructed in the Government High School in Aradapattu in Tiruvannamalai panchayat union.

The Minister said that loans to the tune of Rs.21.72 crore had been disbursed by the Tiruvannamalai District Central Cooperative Bank to women self-help groups in the district. This included Rs.12.43 crore for purchasing milch animals. Disbursing loans of Rs.28.80 lakh to 483 women’s SHGs, Mr. Velu said that the government was taking steps to repay loans to the tune of Rs.10 crore on behalf of individual members of women’s SHGs.

Mr. Velu distributed colour television sets to 1,783 people, house site pattas to 128 persons at the total cost of Rs.6.40 lakh and land pattas worth Rs.1.72 lakh to eight persons.

He gave away annual financial assistance of Rs.1.68 lakh to 35 persons under the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme, widow pension to the tune of Rs.1.53 lakh to 32 women, financial assistance to the tune of Rs. 9,600 to two differently-abled persons and marriage assistance of Rs.2.85 lakh at the rate of Rs.15,000 each to 19 persons under the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammayar Scheme. The functions were held in Kolakkudi, Aradapattu and Navambattu.

Collector Satyabrata Sahoo presided. Tirupattur MP T. Venugopal, District Revenue Officer G. Thamarai and Tiruvannamalai panchayat union chairperson Kamakshi Kannan spoke.
