Keralites in Erode make presence felt with Onam celebration

For Keralites in Erode district, Onam celebration came alive yet again on Sunday, replete with Thiruvathirakali dance and elaborate feast featuring delicacies made of coconut oil.

Those from the city who had left for their home State to celebrate the festival last month made their presence felt during the celebrations in the city on Sunday through active participation in the procession led by a person in the majestic attire of King Mahabali, and on and off the stage at the venue of cultural events.

The Keralites studying in schools and colleges exhibited their prowess in Kathakali, Theyyam, Oppana, Margamkali and Mohiniyattam. Elders from the side of the audience cheered the performers on stage with collective zeal throughout the celebration that lasted for several hours till evening.

The organisers sought to win over youngsters with their plans to start classes in Malayalam and classical dance forms.
