CHENNAI: Justice M. Karpagavinayagam of the Madras High Court is likely to be sworn in Chief Justice of the High Court of Jharkhand on September 17. The Central notification, elevating Mr. Justice Karpagavinayagam as Chief Justice, was received here on Tuesday.

An official farewell function for the Judge will be held in the court premises here on September 15. Born in Devakottai in May 1946, Mr. Justice Karpagavinayagam obtained his law degree from the Government Law College in Chennai.

He was enrolled as an advocate in 1972. He was appointed Judge of the Madras High Court on January 8, 1996. He has authored several books on law, literature and spiritualism. He was also an active member of actor S.V. Sahasranamam's drama troupe during his college days.
