Photo expo and meet with film personalities planned for visitors
: The 20-year-old Department of Communication of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University will organize its three-day ‘Karisal Thiraivizhaa’ from February 4.
The 8th edition is likely to attract more than 300 students of communication from over 30 colleges across Tamil Nadu to showcase their talents in 14 competitions.
Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, Registrar (in-charge), MSU, and Head, Department of Communication, MSU, P. Govindaraju, said the director of ‘Naduvula Konjam Pakkaththa Kaanom’ movie, Balaji Daranitharan, and actor Bhagavathi Perumal, will the chief guests of the inauguration. An interaction session with the film personalities has been arranged. The competitions will begin in the afternoon.
On the second day (February 5), ad photographer A. Thanapal will inaugurate the photo exhibition being conducted on the theme ‘Life on the Street’ at Sundaranar Hall at 9.30 a.m.
Director of ‘Madhupaanakkadai’, Kamalakannan, will interact with the students in the open forum in the afternoon at 2 p.m.
The highlight of the second day events is the screening of Geetha Ilangovan’s documentary film, ‘Madhavidaai’ (Menses), a 38 minute documentary film in English that speaks about misconceptions, superstitious beliefs and the social stigma attached to this metabolic activity.
Writer S. Ramakrishnan, who will interact with the students in the morning (10.30 a.m.) with the participants on the last day, will distribute prizes to winners of various competitions organized during the ‘Karisal Thiraivizhaa’.
“As a curtain-raiser for this year’s events, we’re organising the 20th anniversary celebration and the first general body meet of Alumni of Mano Communication on Sunday (February 3) on the university premises, in which B.P. Sanjay, Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur, and First Head, Department of Communication of MSU, will be the chief guest,” Dr. Govindaraju said.
Of the 300-odd students who had passed out during the past 20 years, around 100 students and faculty members are expected to participate in the get-together, he said.
