DMK workers stage protest over Cauvery issue

Udhagamandalam: Tension prevailed for a brief while at the Government Botanical Garden here on Friday when activists of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, led by former government whip B.M. Mubarak, disrupted the shooting of a Kannada film.

Even as a song sequence was being shot around noon for the film, `Mathaadu Mathaadu Mallige,' starring Vishnuvardhan and Suhasini, at the garden, the group approached the unit raising slogans against Karnataka for its stand on the Cauvery issue and the actors for expressing views in support of the stand.

A request was made by Mr. Mubarak to wind up the shooting on the grounds that Tamil films and films units from Tamil Nadu were being targeted in Karnataka.

Mr. Vishnuvardhan tried to reason with the crowd for sometime.

Fails to pacify

With the actor's efforts going in vain, the director, Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar, ordered the unit to pack up. The crowd also dispersed quietly. The shooting resumed after sometime under tight security.
