CHENNAI: The proposal for a bypass for Kancheepuram, connecting National Highway 4 and the Kancheepuram-Vandavasi road, has been approved by Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T.R. Baalu.

Estimated to cost Rs.34.18 crore, the 8.5-km-long bypass was approved under the Central Road Fund (CRF) scheme. The project would include construction of a bridge, according to a release issued by the Minister’s office.

The Union government gave approval in principle for widening and strengthening the existing road between Perumanallur and Avinashipalayam at a cost of Rs.36.44 crore, the release stated, adding that the road connected NH 47 and NH 67.
