Collector V.Sampath has promised an interesting fare for the forthcoming two-day Summer Festival to be held on the Kalvarayan Hills on on June 15 and 16.

The serpentine roads on the hills and the venue of the event would soon get spruced up.

After holding an official meeting here to discuss the arrangements to be made for the fete here, the collector told reporters that the Highways Department had been assigned the task of properly maintaining the ghat roads and to whitewash the parapet walls.

Decorative arches would be put up all along the route and fruits and vegetables would be liberally used by the agriculture and horticulture departments for ornamental purposes to attract the attention of the tourists.

Cultural programmes would be staged by students and also by troupes to be sponsored by the Arts and Cultural Department.

The Kallakurichi Municipality would set up water tanks at many places to meet the drinking water requirements of the visitors.

The collector also said a medical team would be camping on the hills to render timely health care services.

The Self-Help Groups would put up eateries to serve quality food at reasonable prices and would also market their products.

The government departments have been specifically told to set up spacious pavilions to highlight the welfare schemes of the government and also to showcase their achievements in the respective fields.

The State Transport Corporation would increase the number of bus services to the hills for the convenience of the tourists, the collector said.
