CUDDALORE: The annual jyothi darshan (worship of flames) organised in connection with `Thai Poosam' festivities at Sathya Ganana Sabha, established by Ramalinga Adigalar (Vallalar) at Vadalur near here, drew a large number of followers on Thursday.

The seven screens of various hues such as black, blue, green, red, gold and multi-colours, signifying various status of spiritual evolution opened one after another to reveal the jyothi in the sanctum sanctorum.

For, Ramalinga Adigalar worshipped divinity in the form of jyothi. On sighting the jyothi, the followers of Sanmarkka Sangham who espoused the tenets of Ramlinga Adigalar stressing the need for personal discipline, non-violence, and empathy with all beings, went into raptures raising slogans such as "Arut Perunjyothi, Arut Perunjyothi, Thani Perum Karunai."

The jyothi darshan was shown six times in the course of two days, viz., 6.30 a.m., 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 7 p.m., and 10 p.m., on Thursday and at 5.30 a.m., on Friday. The Tamil Nadu Transport Corporation had run special buses to Vadalur from various places. Backward Classes Minister M.R.K. Panneer Selvam, Divstrict Collector Rajendra Ratnoo and other officials participated .

The district administration had declared Thursday as local holiday. The police had made elaborate security arrangements.
