The Chief Judicial Magistrate) court here on Tuesday extended till October 11 the judicial remand of five Sri Lankan fishermen who were apprehended by the Indian Coast Guard on September 17 and handed over to the Tuticorin Marine Police. CJM N. Dharman extended the remand when the five fishermen, presently lodged in Srivaikundam district jail, were produced before him. The r police inspector sought extension of remand, saying investigation was still pending in the case and the government had not passed any order on their release. After the extension of the remand, the fishermen, all hailing from Negombo, were taken back to the district jail. They were found fishing in Indian waters 70 nautical miles South East off Kanyakumari, when the ICG, during a routine patrol along Gulf of Mannar, arrested them and seized their boat.
