The Madras High Court on Tuesday effected major transfers among Principal District Judges, including V. Ramamurthy, the judge hearing the case relating to V.N. Sudhakaran, former foster son of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

The case against Mr. Sudhakaran under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was for allegedly possessing heroin. Mr. Ramamurthy was the Principal Judge of Special Court for cases under NDPS Act.

Mr. Ramamurthy has reserved his judgement in the case relating to Mr. Sudhakaran. Last week Mr. Ramamurthy deferred the delivery of judgement in the case following a telegram making some allegations against him.

Under these circumstances, a notification from the Registry of Madras High Court said Mr. Ramamurthy was transferred and in his place, C. Chinnappan, Principal District Judge, Krishnagiri, was transferred and posted as Additional District Judge.

As the present incumbent S. Meenakshisundaram Chief Judge, Court of Small Causes, Chennai was retiring voluntarily from service, C. Raghavan, Principal District Judge, Tiruvallur, was transferred and posted in his place. M. Md. Jafarullah Khan, Registrar (Vigilance), High Court, Madras, was transferred and posted as Principal District Judge, Tiruvallur.
