Twenty Junior Red Cross (JRC) counsellors on Monday launched a motorcycle rally to Kanyakumari to create an awareness of eye and blood donations.
The rally, led by M. Ragland Madhuram, district convenor, was flagged off by the Ramanathapuram JRC vice chairman, D. Aravindaraj, in the presence of State JRC vice chairman D.A. Prabakar and Chief Educational Officer R. Sivagamasundari.
The awareness rally started from Vivekananda Pillar here coinciding with the 150th anniversary of Red Cross movement and the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, Mr.Madhuram said, adding it would reach the Vivekananda Rock memorial in Kanyakumari on October 27, covering a total distance of 864 km.
En route, the JRC counsellors would take part in rallies arranged by the local education district units and address students, underlining the need for eye and blood donations, he said.
The counsellors would also distribute pamphlets explaining the importance of donating eyes and blood to the general public, he noted.
