Pudukottai district sanctioned Rs.2.92 crore in first phase

PUDUKOTTAI: The Centrally-sponsored National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme (NREGP) ensuring job opportunity to the agricultural labourers was inaugurated in the district on Monday.

The district has been sanctioned Rs.2.92 crore under the first phase of the scheme. The programme has been introduced at 65 village panchayats, identified at the rate of five each in 13 panchayat unions.

Speaking at a function to mark the inauguration of the programme at Perunkondan Viduthi Village Panchayat near here, Collector D. Uthirakkumaran said that a total of 44,704 habitations had been identified in these village panchayats and eligible members of as many as 35,683 families had registered their names for executing the work under the programme.

Works sanctioned

In Pudukottai union alone, works to the tune of Rs. 21.20 lakh had been sanctioned for five village panchayats. The works on deepening and desilting of supply channels or strengthening of the bunds of water-bodies would be taken up at Perunkondan Viduthi; Sammati Viduthi; Adhanakottai; Puthambur and Kavinadu East village panchayats.

Later, the Collector visited Vaithur in Kundradarkovil panchayat union and inspected the work on desilting a supply channel and Rayavayal village in Puthambur village panchayat.

He also distributed the identity cards to the labourers on the occasion.

Pudukottai panchayat union chairperson Jaya Srinivasan was among those who accompanied him.
