The advocate for AIADMK general secretary and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Saturday submitted an application before the Special Court trying the disproportionate assets cases against her pointing out certain “defects” in the English translation of the depositions of 55 witnesses.

The Karnataka High Court had given a 15-day deadline from March 18 to Ms. Jayalalithaa, who is the main accused in the case, to point out any “defects” in the deposition of witnesses. Meanwhile, it has been indicated in the application that the accused is likely to move the High Court again seeking extension of time to submit more “defects”. B.M. Mallikarjunaiah, Judge of the Special Court and 36th Additional Sessions Court, took the application filed on record and posted the matter for April 6 for supplying the copies of original deposition of these 55 witnesses to the court-appointed Tamil interpreter for verifying whether the translated versions contain “defects” as pointed out by Ms. Jayalalithaa's counsel.
