Citation and cash award given for his role in promotion of the subject
D.Kumar, Associate professor of Economics, Jamal Mohamed College, has won the prestigious Best Teacher Award in Economics for 2013, constituted by Malcolm & Elizabeth Adisheshiah Trust, Chennai.
Prof.Kumar, who is also Treasurer of Association of Economists of Tamil Nadu, was presented a citation and a cash award of Rs.30,000 by the Trust's Executive Secretary H.B.N.Shetty, retired IAS Officer.
Mr.Shetty said the award to Prof. Kumar recognised a blend of excellent teaching, remarkable research achievements, notable initiatives in publications, and role in promotion of the discipline of Economics.
Presiding over the function at Jamal Mohamed College, R.Rajendran, Principal, AVVM Sri Pushpham College, Poondi, complimented Prof. Kumar for successfully guiding eighteen Ph.D scholars in 12 years, besides presenting 87 scholarly papers in national & international conferences and authoring many books.
S.M.Suriya Kumar, president, Association of Economists of Tamil Nadu, emphasised on the role of Economics teachers in grooming students with employability skills and encouraging those with aptitude for intensive learning to be successful in research, while referring to the motivating role performed by Prof. Kumar among students, research scholars, and fellow teachers.

Former teachers of Prof. Kumar at St. Joseph's College Arul Jegannathan, A.J.Arul Chella Kumar, and G.Gnanasekaran, recalled the dedication of Dr.Kumar as a student hailing from a farmer's family.
