PUDUKOTTAI: Blood donation camps by voluntary organisations and non-governmental organisations are a regular happening in cities and towns. Of late this trend is catching up in rural areas too, much to the joy of the medical professionals.
A large number of residents, including women of Varappur and the surrounding areas, actively participated in a blood donation camp at the Varappur Primary Health Centre recently. Mathuranthakie Kaliyamoorthy, Medical Officer, set an example by donating blood herself. The nurses and other staff of the hospital, members of Varappur Kalpana Chawla Blood Donors' Association, led by its president K. Kumar, and villagers followed suit.
G. Edwin, in-charge of Blood Bank at Government Headquarters Hospital, distributed certificates to hose who donated blood. The president of Varappur village panchayat, Sigappayee Ramasamy, vice-president, Chandrasekar, and the former president of the Rotary Club of Alangudi, Kalyanasundaram, felicitated the donors.
