Yesterday it was another person
Coimbatore: See this spot. A person was killed here yesterday. He failed to comply with traffic rules. Today, it can be you.
The police is planning to send across erring vehicle-users such a strong message by marking spots where accidents have occurred in the city.
Now on, such spots will be marked in yellow circles with the word `Fatal' in it.
The Inspector-General and Police Commissioner, C.K. Gandhi Rajan, told reporters here on Thursday that 195 fatal accidents were reported in the city between January and October 31.
All the places where these accidents occurred will be marked, he added.Compliance of rules on one's own rather than by force will be the focus of the police in dealing with motorists.
The yellow circles will be a crude reminder of the fact that a precious life was lost because he/she failed to comply with the rules.
The drive is being carried out in all the 15 police station limits by a team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), N.C. Uma Maheswaran, and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Amir Basha, and Assistant Commissioner, R. Palraj. The circle was aimed at putting a full stop to fatal accidents by making the motorists comply rather than making them obey, Mr. Gandhi Rajan said.
If the police were relieved from the job of continuously painting more such circles, then the objective stands achieved, he added.
