Academicians will discuss various issues that confront higher education and deliberate on different concepts at a conclave organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry, Salem Chapter and CII - Institute of Quality (IQ), Bangalore, here at Hotel Cenneys Gateway, on December 15.
The theme of the conclave, according to a press release is “Building Competitiveness in Higher Education: Challenges and Opportunities”. It provides an opportunity to share concepts, approaches and best practices that can be adapted or adopted by the institutions.
The topics to be covered include ‘Higher Education in India – The Way Forward’, ‘Quality – The Gateway for Competitiveness’ and ‘Leveraging Stakeholders Strengths for Building Competitiveness’. K.P. Isaac, Member Secretary, AICTE, New Delhi will deliver the inaugural address.
M. Balaji, Member-Secretary, State Planning Commission, Education and Employment Division, Government of Tamil Nadu, and Dr. S. K. Sundararaman, Director, Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, will deliver address. Other speakers for the various technical sessions include Anand Samuel, Pro Vice-Chancellor, VIT University, Vellore, P. During the inaugural session, Mr. Isaac will also distribute books to the CII member colleges.
The subjects include science, literature, history, geography, economics, political science, engineering and international relations.
It is a part of the literacy campaign which The Asia Foundation in collaboration with the CII has embarked on by distributing 25,000 books to universities. The campaign would cover more than 400 colleges in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Puducherry and Tamil Nadu.
