Over 1,500 persons who have applied for new ration cards in the district would get the cards by this month end, Collector Darez Ahamed announced here on Saturday.

At the second special camp organised in connection with the grievances regarding ration card, he said that of the 2,567 petitions received at the first camp on December 3, as many as 1,196 were settled on the very day as they were related to inclusion, deletion and correction of names.

Besides, petitions seeking new cards received at that camp and on other occasions, including the grievances day chaired by the Collector, District Revenue Officer, and Revenue Divisional Officer had been processed and 1,791 had been accepted.

Responding to those accepted, new cards were being handed over to 185 petitioners on Saturday. “Printing is in progress with regard to the rest and all of them will get the new cards by this month end,” he added.

Elambai R. Tamilselvan, MLA, handed over the new cards. Those who took part in the camp include District Revenue Officer M. A. Subramanian, District Supply Officer S.Meenakshisundaram, Revenue Divisional Officer R. Revathi, and personal assistant to Collector T. Elangovan.
