Delay in issuing ‘cut (harvest) order’ by sugar mills often leads to the sugarcane crop going waste.

Hence the mills should give the order on time so that farmers were not left with a situation of having to see their produce becoming useless, said the Collector, Darez Ahamed, while addressing the 44{+t}{+h}meeting of sugarcane research and development workers of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry here on Wednesday.

The meeting is organised by the Sugarcane Breeding Institute (SBI) of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research in association with the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and sugar industry. The two-day meeting has been convened to discuss intercropping in sugarcane and micro irrigation and mechanisation initiatives.
