CHENNAI: A subordinate court has declined to grant possession of a portion of the Irattai Keni Thangal lake in Shozhinganallur to individuals who claimed to be occupying the property for decades. .

N. Dhandapani, Additional Subordinate Judge, Chengalpattu, passed the order on a suit preferred by Murugammal and K. Durai. The plaintiffs had impleaded Exnora International and the district administration as parties to the proceedings.

They claimed ownership of the property on the ground of adverse possession and prayed for a permanent injunction restraining the authorities from interfering with their possession and enjoyment of the property.

However, in his written submissions, the Chengalpattu District Collector said it was a poromboke land, never under encroachment.

Exnora told the court that the property was a lake useful for irrigating lands in the area. Its attempt to deepen the water source could not be completed due to aprotest, it said.

Concurring with the submissions, the Judge said the plaintiffs had failed to prove their case by furnishing relevant documents.
