PUDUKOTTAI: The Advani Peravai has urged the Railway Ministry to introduce train services on the Pudukottai-Chennai and Tiruvarur-Chennai sectors.

Reacting to the railway budget proposals here on Tuesday, its State president C. Palaniappan welcomed the introduction of five new trains, including those on the Rameswaram-Chennai and Nagore-Chennai sectors. Pointing out that this would be a possibility only on completion of the conversion of the metre gauge into broad gauge sections, he raised doubts about the introduction of the trains in the near future.

He suggested that the services be operated immediately on the existing BG sectors between Pudukottai and Chennai and Tiruvarur and Chennai, and could be extended as and when the conversion work was completed.

The volunteers of the Peravai staged a demonstration at the Old Bus stand here on Tuesday, in support of their charter of demands.

They also urged the railways to operate a direct train service between Tiruchi and Chennai and expedite work on BG conversion between Pudukottai and Karaikudi.
