Drive will continue till June 9

Krishnagiri: A total of 1,700 students in association with teachers and volunteers of Sarva Shiksha Abiyan (SSA) took a rally to create awareness among the public on enrolment of children in schools here on Saturday.

Collector Santhosh Babu flagged off the rally at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Krishnagiri, which covered Four Roads, Gandhi Road and Pazhayapet.

An intense enrolment drive and awareness programme to enrol children will be observed from June 3 to 9 said Collector, Santhosh Babu.

He said the intense enrolment drive was a good opportunity for all children aged 14 years including drops outs, never enrolled and child labourers to continue their education.

Under the scheme food, accommodation, uniforms, books and stationery would be provided free of cost to the students. District Elementary Education Officer Thailammal and Project Coordinator, SSA, Anbu attended. In Dharmapuri district, Collector M. Chandrasekaran flagged off the rally at the Vallalar Grounds. A total of 500 students and SSA volunteers took part in the rally.
