The Tiruchi District Pensioners’ Association has urged the State government to accord one more chance for inclusion of pensioners under the pensioners’ health insurance scheme.

A resolution adopted at its meeting held here recently, referred to the consent obtained from pensioners for recovering Rs.100 every month towards health welfare fund.

The deadline for the option was fixed as June 30, 2010 .

Many pensioners had not opted for it. With a view to include more pensioners, another chance must be given to them.

Another resolution pleaded for the restoration of commutation pay for pensioners. It referred to the withdrawal of the benefit with effect from April 1, 2003. K.Palaniandi, district president of the association, pleaded for free bus pass for senior citizens. He pointed out that the election manifesto of the AIADMK assured free bus pass for seniors, but no announcement had been made so far.

The members of the association observed silence mourning the death of noted lyricist Vaali.

P. Rajarathinam, vice president, R. Muthian, joint secretary, spoke.
