MADURAI: Sleuths of Department of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) arrested on graft charge an Inspector of Police, S.M. Swaminathan, and a Special Sub-Inspector, S.T.N. Manoharan, attached to the Crime wing of Jaihindpuram police station Wednesday night.
DVAC source said that the Inspector had demanded a bribe of Rs. 1,500 to issue a referred chargesheet to one R. Shanmuganathan of Pazhayanoor. The chargesheet would enable him to get compensation from the insurance company for his lost motorbike. The vehicle was stolen six months back in Jaihindpuram police station limits.
Based on a complaint from Shanmuganathan, the DVAC Deputy Superintendent of Police, N. Kulothungapandian, laid a trap. When the complainant offered the bribe money, the Inspector directed him to hand it over to the SSI, the source said.
