: Insertion of new slips for 2013 in ration card began here on Tuesday.

Consumers thronged fair price shops and renewed their cards as per a directive of the state government. Civil supplies officials inspected shops.

A. Basheer, District Supply Officer, verified the records of cards renewed and distribution of commodities to consumers.

Those failed to renew their cards on weekdays could utilize opportunities on Saturdays.

He instructed salesmen to distribute essential commodities only after renewal.

Kerosene on Saturdays

Consumers at rural area could get kerosene on Saturdays weekly, he said.

Later in evening, a meeting led by Taluk Supply Officer, Selvakumar, was convened at Kovilpatti with the salesmen to review response from consumers, he added.

The renewal would continue until February 27.

Inspections were made at shops in Polepettai, Muthaiyapuram, Sholapuram, Keela Eral and Ettayapuram.
