The Consumer Protection Council, Tamil Nadu, has welcomed the announcement of the Minister for Higher Education P.Palaniappan that an inquiry would be initiated into the appointments of the Vice-Chancellors during the previous regime.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday , S.Pushpavanam, secretary of the council, said the decision was a step in the right direction to fight corruption. It has to be expeditiously done before the corrupt VCs try to recover by corrupt means, the bribe they paid.

The inquiry should also be extended to appointments in aided colleges as the salary is being paid by the government and appointments are regularised by the government, he said.
