Condemn killings of innocent Tamils in Sri Lanka
SALEM: The inmates of four Sri Lankan refugee camps in Salem district observed a fast near the Pavalathanur refugee camp at Taramangalam on Monday to condemn the killings of innocent Tamils in the island nation.
The inmates numbering about 1,550, including women and children, from the camps in Pavalathanur, Kurukkupatti, Siddarkoil and Athikatanur in the district took part.
They said their people in Sri Lanka were caught in the crossfire as the Lankan army had launched an offensive against the LTTE.
The issue should be treated as human rights violation, they urged. They also wanted the Indian Government to interfere and sort out the issue amicably.
Meanwhile, members of All India Ambedkar Makkal Katchi under the leadership of Annadurai took out a rally in Salem city to protest against the killing of Tamils in Sri Lanka.
Wearing the uniforms of Singhalese army, the cadres enacted skits on the atrocities of Lankan army on innocent Tamils while undertaking the procession. They also urged the Sri Lankan Government to cease fire and save the lives of hundreds of Tamils in the nation.
