Programme set to enter Guiness Book of World Records

Event organised by IDA, Karuna International

15,000 to participate in mass-brushing event

CHENNAI: More than 15,000 children are expected to participate in an initiative to improve dental hygiene at an event to be organised in the Nehru Indoor Stadium on Friday in the city. The Indian Dental Association (IDA), Madras Branch, and Karuna International, Chennai Kendra, will conduct a mass-brushing programme and dental camp for students from more than 150 schools.

Most students will be from Standards V and above. As many as 150 doctors are also expected to participate.

The technique of brushing adopted, more than the brand of brush or paste used, determines dental health, representatives of the IDA told presspersons here on Saturday.

The event would also be a record of sorts and is being entered for both the Limca and Guinness Book of Records. The Philippines Dental Association has previously held such a programme with 11,000 students.

Karuna International is an organisation promoting the values of non-violence and peace.

Schools that are members of Chennai Kendra, including some 15 Corporation schools, have been invited to participate in the event.
