Chennai: When the Indian diaspora celebrate Independence Day next month, they are likely to be joined by people with little or no connection to India.
India-theme festivals, these days, generate followers across the world. Recently, an Indian visitor to the U.S. from the city recounted her bewilderment at seeing a 20-foot Ganesha replica at a Macy’s superstore in San Franciso’s Union Square. The mall had put up the replica as part of a flower show on the theme, ‘Imagine India’ and the crowds latched on to the mood, said Ranjini Manian, CEO of Chennai-based Global Adjustments.
The training company featured the Macy’s experience in the June issue of its free mailer magazine ‘At a Glance’ published from Chennai. By a coincidence, the hyper mall got wind of it and has placed express orders for at least 150 copies when it organises India’s Independence Day celebrations next month.
