Matriculation schools in Madurai revenue district improved their performance slightly in the Standard X public examinations.
From the 142 schools in Madurai, a total of 6,911 students took the examination of whom 6,670 or 96.51 per cent cleared it, compared to 95.20 per cent last year.
Girls continue to score over boys as of the total 2,964 girls who took the examination, 2,909 or 98.14 per cent came out successful, compared to 96.88 per cent last year.
Of the total 3,947 boys who took the examination, 3,761 boys or 95.29 per cent passed, compared to 93.91 per cent last year.
As far as the performance of matriculation schools in the three educational districts is concerned, the Usilampatti educational district has come on top by a narrow margin.
While Usilampatti recorded a pass percentage of 97.86 per cent, Madurai educational district has come a close second with 97.02 per cent. Melur educational district achieved 95.62 per cent.
However, in terms of absolute numbers, Madurai educational district was way ahead with a total of 3,587 students appearing for the examination of whom 3,480 passed.
A total of 515 students appeared from Usilampatti educational district of whom 504 cleared the examination. Of the 2,809 students who appeared from Melur educational district, 2,686 passed the Standard X examination in matriculation board.
Anglo Indian Board
Railway Mixed Higher Secondary School, which is the only school affiliated to Anglo Indian Board Examinations in the city, recorded a significant decline this year. While the school achieved 94.34 pass percentage last this year, this year saw a decline to 87.04 per cent.
Of the total 54 students who took the Standard X examination, 47 cleared it.
The performance of both boys and girls declined this year.
While 36 boys and 18 girls took the examination, 32 boys and 15 girls cleared it.
While boys achieved 96.15 pass percentage last year compared to 88.89 pass percentage this year, girls achieved 92.29 pass percentage last year compared to 83.33 per cent this year.
