Founder leader of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) S. Ramadoss on Tuesday formally launched the Athikadavu – Avanashi Ground Water Recharge Scheme Struggle Committee and urged the State Government to expedite implementation of the Scheme.

He also said that delay to implement the scheme would result in the committee resorting to series of agitations.

Addressing reporters, he said that implementation of the Athikadavu – Avanashi scheme had been the persistent demand of the Kongu region since 1956. If implemented, the scheme would help in diversion of the 2.5 tmcft of surplus water in Bhavani during the rainy season for filling up nearly 220 water bodies in eight taluks of Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode districts.

The PMK founder leader wanted the State to commence the implementation of the scheme within the next six months as it would cost Rs 1,850 crore.
