TWAD Board launches campaign to promote the system
To promote rainwater harvesting system, the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD) has launched a campaign here on Sunday.
Minister for Tourism S.P. Shanmuganathan inaugurated a campaign stall of the RWH system in the presence of Collector M. Ravikumar on the Collectorate premises. The Minister inspected a model of rainwater harvesting system. It was aimed at conserving rainwater and all government buildings would be equipped with the facility, the Minister said.
A method of installing the system from the terrace to a sump on the ground floor through pipes was exhibited in the stall. Executive Engineer of TWAD Board said all government-owned buildings should be provided with such rainwater harvesting system by June 30 in the first phase. A meeting would be convened with officials from government departments and organisations to work out strategies for early implementation of the system. A series of awareness programmes were also scheduled to be carried out throughout this week, he said.
Collector S.Nagarajan inaugurated a rainwater harvesting model at the Collectorate in Nagercoil on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the Government officials should try to set up RWH system in their houses and commercial buildings. Students would take out rallies to create awareness about RWHS. Similarly, the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board officials should also involve themselves in creating awareness about RWH systems, the Collector said.
