MADURAI: A 33-year-old man was arrested after he was found to have allegedly impersonated as a government pleader. Police said that N. Nityanandam of Mangadu near Chennai had come here in November and was staying in a lodge. He had identified himself as a government pleader.

When he failed to pay the rent of Rs. 200 a day, the lodge authorities conducted discreet inquiries and found that that Nityanandam was neither an advocate or a government pleader.

Based on a complaint, Commissioner of Police P. Balasubramanian directed the police to conduct an enquiry. He confessed to the impersonation.

Thideer Nagar police registered a case.
